Install of SEP 12.1 fails on WinXP 32bit with Epson Scanner and Copy utility installed

I am trying to run an installation package for SEP 12.1.3 (Managed) on a workstation that has an epson twain scanner software and epson copy software installed.  The installer package launches, but at some point in the installation process, it triggers the Epson Scan software 'escndv.exe', and then also launches 'ecopy.exe' right after the scan software.  The installation fails.  It doesn't seem to affect the existing SEP installation, which is 11.x having been previously upgraded from SAV 10.x. 

The installation package, and existing client do NOT have Symantec Firewall enabled or included.

Any suggestions?
