Firewall policies backward compatible?

Not sure if that makes sense, but we currently have SEPM 12.1 and SEP 11/12.1 clients. The firewall we're using is originally from v11. We have some issues with an application running very slowly. In our logs we get "Block all other traffic" and blocked ethernet 0x806. I've done some looking around and it seems we need to create a new firewall policy from v12 (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/eth...). I assume v12 FW policy will work with SEP 11 clients?
