Does AV content updates from SEPM degrade the performance of Machine installed with SEP

Hi All,

Does AV content updates from SEPM degrade the performance of Machine installed with SEP? I mean the machine(Windows Server 2003/2008) is installed with sep client & also having critical business application running on it. Does it hamper the performance or slow it down while sep content updation from SEPM or Liveupdate(via internet).
