Enabling IPS requires Firewall = Issue!

Hi all,

In an attempt to 'beef up' our AV solution to catch viruses much earlier, I'd like to enable IPS that comes with SEPM. However in order to have this enabled, I would have to enable the Firewall feature within the installer according to the Symantec articles. But I do not want firewall installed at all as we have a hardware firewall.

According to http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH95347 under "IPS and client firewall", it states that I can install it and then withdraw the policy. So I did that and made sure that the policy is not enabled at all.

I enabled both IPS and Firewall under Client Feature listing. I then created an installer package. And deployed it to a test machine.

The test machine is a Windows 7 which is connected to our network and is authentected with our DCs.

Once installed I rebooted the computer and this is where the problem started. it firstly won't let me log in to the computer! On the 2nd try, it allowed me in but once I got to the desktop, I am getting lots of error mssages, like "Unable to connected to netword drive", my desktop icons are all blank, etc.

To test that it was the firewall that is causing this issue, I uninstalled the Firewall feature and instantly all network connections came back to alive. Why is that? I withdrawn the Firewall policy, so it should not be working at all?

How do I do this? Is there a way round to this?

Thanks all,
