Shutting down the Managment Console?

We have Symantec Protection Suite Enterprise installed on around 15 workstations here, all managed, but no Symantec Firewall ro Application & Device control.  We're using default policies, clients are allowed to hit Live Update, etc.

Unfortunately our server is extremely overburdened and I think the Management Console is having a negative impact on its performance.  We are wishing we had gone with standalone client installs and no Management Console, at least temporarily until we replace this server.  We don't have another box available to host the Management Console.

My question is this - if we stop and disable the Managemetn Console & Embedded Database services on our server, will the clients still get definition updates directly from Symantec's servers?

What are the downsides, if any, of doing this?  We are willing to lose the client management features for now.
