Hello everywhere I need to perform would appreciate your comments and suggestions on how it should be done properly
Current Situation
- SEPM 12.1 RU1 installed with SQL instance on SQL Server 2000 wih 1100 endpoints. Due to some DB issues on SQL server 2000 SEPM cannot be connected to the DB and as a result is in offline state . Endpoints to SEPM status is also offline so the communication is also not happening.
- Now I cannot re-use the same SQL Server 2000 machine and the machine on which SEPM is hosted server OS is 2003
- Now I need to move my SEPM to a new machine of Server 2008 R2 ( the IP and hostane of this new machine would be the same as the old SEPM machine) and the Database to a new machine where SQL Server vesion is 2008 R2
- I took the backup of the database using SEPM server backup and restore tool . I have also the server private key backup folder and recovery file with me.
Requirement
- Need to move the SEPM to a new machine and also the DB to a new SQL server instance
- Do not want to make any changes on the endpoint level itself. Changes should be done on the Server level for the smooth and seamless migration from old machines to the new machines so when it is done endpoints are automatically connected without any manual intervention at the endpoint level
Proposed Plan of Action
- On the new machine install the same version of SEPM server that is 12.1 RU1 with the recovery file and use a new SQL server instance that would be availble for a new SQL server 2008 R2. Once the installation is complete the restore the backup of the DB and clients would start reporting this new SEPM. Once clients start reporting then Upgrade this SEPM-1 to the newest version that is 12.5 RU5
- Then install a second SEPM-2 server in failover mode that will use the same new SQL server instance.
- Are these the right steps to follow the do it in the right way and I do not want to make any manual changes at the endpoints level once these steps are peformed then endpoints will automatically start reporting and connected to the SEPM's ?
